Business.co.uk was one of the first .co.uk domains registered. It was picked up in 1994 by Nick Ogden, a British entrepreneur who recently won the 2010 National Business Awards Entrepreneur of the Year. It wasn’t until recently that Mr. Ogden, founder of several successful business ventures including WorldPay and Voice Commerce Group decided how to develop Business.co.uk.
Business.co.uk has been launched as a not for profit entrepreneur support site that will provide new business start ups with access to discounts, offers and incentives from a growing list of Business.co.uk partners. Ogden said the idea for the new site was sparked by the expansion of the New Enterprise Allowance (NEA) program in the U.K. that provides unemployed citizens wanting to create their own businesses with start-up cash and resources.
For years Business.co.uk had been a redirect to one of Ogden’s company homepages until 2008 when it looks like he had a similar idea for the domain but maybe the timing was not right as the site went offline shortly after launch. This time around, Ogden quickly got the support he needed to get the idea rolling as many large companies including BT Group, AXA Insurance, EasyJet, Fasthosts Internet Ltd, RJJ Freight Ltd, School for Startups, and NatWest got on board and all now offer programs with resources through the Business.co.uk website.
