Received My First Adsense Check Today

I didn’t scan a copy for proof because I tore it in half thinking it was junk mail. :)   The check came in a plain white envelope with no markings on it, good thing I peeked in to see what it was!  Although my adsense account is almost three years old, I’m not embarrassed to share that I finally got over that $100 payment threshold.  The first two and half years I only used adsense on a couple sites I built from code.  It wasn’t until late last year when I started moving several domains away from platforms like parked and sedo and started using Noomle.com parking/minisite monetization system.  Here’s a writeup I did on Noomle in Jan.  Unfortunately, I have failed at my goal of having 100 noomle minisites up by summertime otherwise I am pretty sure my next check would have been coming in July.

Most of the domains that I build into monetized sites from here out will have some sort of Google adsense ads on the page.  I am also trying out affiliate ads and testing out some lead generation/cpa possibilities for websites of mine.  I’ve been reading/watching lots of material from Morgan Linton lately on affiliate marketing and lead gen, he’s published tons of great info on these topics.

Now that I have a whole $108 dollars from the ‘Big G’ … how do I spend it?

Domaining Notes 4/13

* I recently grabbed the domain name TaipeiVacation.com, it came with a neat little minisite included..  I actually just used the old minisite content and placed it into an easier to manage noomle mini.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the changes I made won’t effect the serp, I kept the title and article content completely the same and plan to add more articles soon.

* Confirmed with Ray at ccTLD’s some of my ccTLD domains will be submitted into the Milan auction, including JewelryExchange.us, Herbal.tv and WebBrowser.in.  Have I mentioned recently ccTLDs.com is a great forum for discussing ccTLD’s?  Worth checking out if you haven’t already.

* Received Escrow check for a ‘cannabis’  related domain name that I sold last month (sale undisclosed).  The inquiry came in via email.  This month has been slowest month of the year so far with zero unsolicited offers via email, maybe investors are waiting for their tax returns to come in.

* I did some more work with Noomle and actually had fun creating/improving a few minisites on my domains..  These take approx 5-20 minutes each to make (depending on number and originality of articles): GuatemalaSoccer.com, 3dAddiction.com, SportsTherapy.us and AcceptGold.com B-)

* Working on harvesting sales for two .net domains to end users who I contacted over the last few weeks, I haven’t sold a .net to an end user in MONTHS.  Wish me luck!

Do You Noomle?

This post is to report that I have started and am continuing to move my domains away from traditional parking pages to the Noomle.com parking/minisite system.

Noomle provides users with adsense or ypn ready templates you can utilize by changing your dns to their servers.  These templates are ready to be converted into fully developed minisites as you can control all content and new pages.  You only need one article to be added to your ‘minisite’ to be able to activate that domain in the Noomle system.  Noomle has an article library where you can use articles for your sites, however, I highly recommend using your own articles that you write or purchase from a freelance writer.  It’s easy to quickly activate new pages where videos and news headlines that are relevant to your domain name or keyword  are aggregated.  Here are two of my Noomle monetized domains: VisitTaipei.net and ComboUnits.com.  It took me 5-10 minutes to set up each site, which includes the time it took me to write/add my own ‘article’ for each one.  Yes, these are very skin and bone ‘sites’ but I am not touting my content, just the results.

Impressive.  That’s the word that comes to mind when I compare results over the last couple months with my Noomle optimized sites compared to Sedo, Parked and NameDrive, the top three companies I have/will move away from.  I won’t share exact numbers but my CTR (click thru rate) on Noomle pages is closing in on 5% and my average EPC (earnings per click)  is approximately $.35/click.  Compare that to my Sedo averages of 1% CTR and a nickel a click (EPC), moving my parked portfolio to Noomle is a no brainer.  These stats are still very low compared to results that some on the members on Noomle’s forum are reporting.  Keep in mind, I have not spent time doing any optimizing or adding fresh content to the Noomle sites I’ve created so far.

There are two memberships types at Noomle.com – Contributor or Non-Contributor (free membership).  The free Noomle membership gives all of the tools you need to get as many domain names as you want monetized using their system (read complete details).  The best part about Noomle is that they do NOT take a revenue share, so all of the revenue you generate from adsense is yours, paid to you directly from Google (or ypn/Yahoo if that’s your thing).  Of course, contributing members have worthwhile perks like:  Full access to new and premium templates, bulk functions, empower articles with keywords,  and more!  Minimum contribution to gain full access is $5 every two months.  In order to join Noomle, I believe you must also join the forum as well, it’s where you can make contributions.  Also, the forum is a great place to discuss and get support for your Noomle questions.

Right now, I only have a couple dozen domains monetized using Noomle.  It is more time consuming than parking, which is why I don’t have 100 Noomle pages up yet.  So, do you Noomle?  Feel free to share some Noomle sites of your own in a comment here.

‘Developing’ Your Domain Names

First of all to clear up any confusion, I titled this post ‘developing’ your domain names because I am going to talk about developing the domains in your portfolio into something beyond a parked page NOT full blown web development, which is a very costly and time consuming task.  What I want to focus on here is moving your domain portfolio (or parts of it) away from parked pages and shifting more towards creating landing pages, minisites, or blogs for domain names.  Why?  PPC revenue is on a serious decline and search engines don’t typically index parked pages.  By ‘developing’ domains monetization, traffic and the value of your domain should all increase.

There are several ways to create a different feel for your domain when you type it into your browser instead of looking at the same old parking pages.  Before you dive into these projects you’ll need a hosting account (preferably one that allows you to host multiple domains), knowledge using cpanel, and some html or even php background will really help.  I practice three methods for ‘developing’ domains.

First, I like to create custom landing pages for domains, it’s quite easy using html or a template service.   I like to do this when I am promoting domains for sale or if I have a nice looking logo for a specific domain.  Here are a couple examples: http://www.regastar.com and http://thesopranos.info, http://www.pokeravenue.net.  These custom landers only took me a few minutes to make and get online.  I like to use affiliate banners for monetization on these since there is not enough content to use adsense.

Creating a ‘blog’ using WordPress or a similar blogging software is a good way to add content to any ordinary domain.  It’s not hard to setup a blog using cpanel and with some frequent updating you can get your domain indexed in major search engines pretty fast.  There is even software out there that auto-updates or aggregates news specifically on topics you define (I don’t use these, I like old fashion way of hand writing my articles).  Here are a couple blog sites (besides this one) that I have up: http://www.abudhabiblog.com, http://www.sickcars.info (recently sold but still up).  My blog sites are not monetized to their full potential but the earnings from these sites make it worth updating them with new content frequently.  *There is lots of $$ to be made with serious blogging and many more ways to make money using your blog, do some research I am just scratching the surface here.

Lastly, I want to talk about minisites.  Minisites are multipage websites that are created to provide information, articles, pictures, links, etc. on specific topics relating to the domain being used.  Minisites differ from fully developed websites because they usually do not provide a service or sell a product, they are mostly informational.  I have had far better PPC results from adsense clicks on my minisites than I have for a LONG time with parking.  I prefer to use a great free service called Noomle to develop some of my minisites.  Also, you wont need to use your own hosting account if you are going to develop minisites with Noomle.  It is very easy and is not very time consuming.  The nice thing about creating minisites is that you can always go back and add more content, pages, etc.  So, by making minisites you should get your domains indexed in search engines, assuming your content is halfway decent (hopefully multiple pages of your site gets indexed).  Naturally, this will increase traffic to your domain, increasing it’s value.   Here is an example of a nicely developed noomle minisite (not mine): http://www.efollia.com, another I created myself (not using noomle): http://www.palmdeiradubai.com and a  poker minisite I created last year using my own templates (now sold, but still up) http://www.pokerjedi.com.

Hopefully this will motivate you to ‘develop’ some of your domains into something other than a stale parking pages.  Don’t get me wrong I still have much of my portfolio parked, but I try to set some time aside from buying, selling, and general domaining each month to ‘develop’ a domain or two.
