Weekly Domain Name Sales Summary Nov 14 – 20, 2018

Here is the delayed weekly report for NameBio listed domain name sales for the 7 day period Nov 14 to Nov 20, 2018 inclusive. As usual, the daily summaries include number of sales in total and over $1000 in value, as well as average and median prices. I also list names that stood out for me from each day’s summary.

During the past week the number of sales per day ranged from 165 to 240. There were fewer than 200 sales on 3 of the 7 days in the reporting period.

The highest average daily price was $2836 but that was heavily influenced by the sale of kush.com – if we exclude that one sale the average is only $594 that day. The lowest average daily sale price was $497.

The median daily sale price, a better measure of prices an individual domain investor is likely to encounter, ranged from $220 to $342. One should keep in mind, however, that the  NameBio database is a mix of wholesale and retail domain prices.

The number of daily sales above $1000 ranged from 16 to 39. There were 20 or more sales above the $1000 level on 5 of the 7 days in the reporting period.

During  the week there were between 165 and 240 sales per day, with a median sales price of typically $220 to $340.  The number of sales per day with value of $1000 or more ranged from 16 to 39 sales.

My personal favourite names from this week include 1M (com), cloud (team), coinspace (io), drabble (com), drift (io), eKing (com), ESN (net), expo (media), flavour (net), have (fun), kairos (space), kissa (com), MindForce (com), PerfectSmiles (com), Q (org), religious (ly), rippled (com), term (tv) and undergraduate (com).

Discussion

In the daily reports I kept the information as reflected in that daily report. Some sales are added to the database after the deadline and therefore do not appear. Keep in mind that only certain venues report sales to NameBio.  These venues represent a mix of wholesale (domain investor to domain investor) and retail (domain investor to end user) sales.

Days such as Nov 15 demonstrate the danger in using average prices – the $500,000 sale of kush.com totally dominated the average sales price, which was very modest that day without that one sale. That is why we calculate the median price for each day.

I urge you to read the full Daily Market Reports at NameBio. I would like to thank Michael and others at NameBio that make this valuable database freely available to the domain community.  It is also important to periodically do a full NameBio search, as a number of sales are reported long after the date of sale. As we discussed here,  these can distort your impression of the sales record.
