Weekly Domain Name Sales Summary Dec 5 – 11, 2018

We report here NameBio listed domain name sales for the 7 day period Dec 5 to Dec 11, 2018 inclusive.

During the past week the number of sales per day ranged from 195 to 288. There were 200 or more sales on 6 of thee 7 days in the reporting period.

The highest average daily price was $2670 (heavily influenced by the sale of plants.com – without that one sale the average price would be $606). The lowest average daily sale price was $582 in a relatively strong week overall, especially in .com domain names.

The median daily sale price, a better measure of prices an individual investor is likely to encounter, ranged from $215 to $268.

The number of daily sales above $1000 ranged from 15 to 37. There were 20 or more sales above the $1000 level on 5 of the 7 days in the reporting period.

Over the week the number of sales per day ranged from 195 to 288, with between 15 and  37 of those sales above $1000 in value.  The median price range is from $215 to $268.  The week saw two huge sales, calculator.com and plants.com.

The daily sales volume ranged from a low of about $124k (i.e. $124,000) to a high of about $585k.

My personal favourite names from this week include AmericaPass (com), briefcase (io), calculator (com), ClimateRegistry (org), CoinWallet (co), CorporateReputation (com), cybit (com), distribute (us), emprego (online), GreenChange (org), LegacyMotors (com), LetsPay (com), MovingVan (com), PetChannel (com), SmartContracts (org), solaria (net), and telephone (io).

Discussion

This was a more active than normal week in domain name sales, including several major sales (calculator and plants, both in .com). Two of the days saw 35 or more sales at the $1000 level and beyond.

The careful reader will note that my daily summaries have one additional item starting with this reporting period – the total sales volume for the day.  The structure of each daily report is date, number of sales, average sales price,  median sales price, number of sales $1000 or above that day, and the total sales volume.  This is followed by a listing of names that struck me as important, creative or interesting for some other reason. The choice is of course entirely subjective.  I tend to include higher value sales, but they are definitely not only the highest value sales for the day.  I group these with say all of the .com sales followed by  ‘(com);’ and similarly for other extensions. Occasionally I note a name that has taken a big rise or fall in price from a previous sale in that name, or a sale that strikes me as a particular bargain.

In the daily reports I kept the information as reflected in that daily report. Some sales are added to the database after the deadline and therefore do not appear.  This was a relatively slow week in new domain extension sales, but often these appear in the NameBio database too late to make the daily reports.

Keep in mind that only certain venues report sales to NameBio.  These venues represent a mix of wholesale (domain investor to domain investor) and retail (domain investor to end user) sales. The median sales price should be interpreted within that understanding.

I urge you to read the full Daily Market Reports at NameBio. I would like to thank Michael and others at NameBio that make this valuable database freely available to the domain community.

Should you want to get my reflections on the NameBio reported sales on a daily basis follow me on Twitter @AGreatDomain.  In case  you missed the preceding weekly report it is here. I will do another summary here in about a week’s time.
