The .ME ccTLD was rolled out with the idea that it would be much more than just Montenegro’s respective ccTLD. In 2008, the government of Montenegro made a deal with Godaddy.com to make .ME available for unrestricted global use. With Godaddy heavily promoting the extension when it was rolled out, it quickly saw hundreds of thousands of registrations. .ME is marketed as a domain that is suited to give a personal touch to your website.. or something like that 🙂
There are several success stories around developed .me websites, but today I want to talk about recent .me sales. In the most recent SnapNames premium .me auction there were over $130,000 in domain sales and 35 total sales. Top sale was Click.me at $18,500 followed by Trade.me at $17,200. There were eight others sold in the $6k-$15k range including Map.me, Design.me, Phone.me, Baby.me and Name.me. Most of the domains sold work extremely well as ‘hack’ domains. Perhaps the snap auction created a .ME frenzy as Sedo also brokered a huge sale last month of Join.me for $45,000.
I’ve recently just picked up my first .ME domains. Funny thing, while writing this post I received a response from an inquiry I made for a .me domain last week – offer accepted, paid and domain received before I finished writing this post! Well, here’s my newest domain: Telepresence.me – Any thoughts?

The dot me extension is worthless!
John, thanks for your insightful post. Perhaps you care to explain how any entire extension is worthless? Besides it’s use as a ccTLD, .me is also recognized globally as a vanity extension and is useful for catchy hack domains.
I am not recommending anyone go out and buy .me domains after reading this post. I finally bought my first two after ignoring the landrush and initial frenzy in 08-09. Until recently I had similar feelings as John about .me but recent sales indicate that the extension is not a joke and the marketing power godaddy pumped into .me caught the attention of a few big players.
As far as telepresence.me, I am more excited about the keyword than the extension but .me does seem to fit ‘telepresence’. More on telepresence 🙂
