Comcast.net Hackers Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison

Christopher Lewis, 20, and Michael Nebel, 28, were part of a hacker group dubbed ‘Kryogeniks’ that took control of the Comcast.net DNS in May 2008.   The men were finally sentenced to 18 months in prison and fined $89,778.13 each for restitution.

The hackers tricked an employee at Network Solutions into giving them access to the domain name controls including the DNS (domain name servers).  The domain was re-directed to typical hacker page and the administrative e-mail addresses were also altered.  Comcast.net was never stolen or removed from the owners account but was re-directing to the hackers site for a few hours.  Comcast is a huge company that relies completely on the domain for customer e-mail, voicemail, etc.
