GoDaddy.com IndyCar Challenge: $5 Million in Cash up for Grabs if Dan Wheldon Wins

It’s a long shot but GoDaddy definitely knows how to stay in the headlines and promote it’s brand. This time GoDaddy.com along with Verizon are sponsoring the Godaddy.com IndyCar Challenge.  The way this works is if IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon, winner of this year’s Indy 500 goes on to win the IndyCar Series World Championship next month in Las Vegas he and a lucky fan will split $5 million in cash.

There’s a catch, for IndyCar to agree to this Dan Wheldon must start the race in the last position.  The odds of Dan going on to win the IndyCar Championship are actually very slim, he was a considered a long shot to win the Indy 500 back in May and hasn’t participated in a race since then.

For the next few weeks fans can enter into the challenge by visiting the IndyCar World Championships sweepstakes page and following the instructions to sign up.  The winning fan will win a vacation package to Vegas to watch the race from the pit and some travel money.  If Dan Wheldon wins, the fan and Dan split $5 million.  If that were to happen, the publicity would surely be worth the money GoDaddy gives away to the winners.

I’ve never been much of an IndyCar fan or a car racing fan for that matter – but all the sudden I think I have a new favorite driver and wouldn’t mind watching the IndyCar Championship from Vegas.  😉

  • “The Grand Prize winner will win $2,500,000 awarded in the form of a 40-year annuity, with 40 annual payments of approximately $62,500”

  • I’m fine with getting $62500.00. Then just sell the annuity to some fund for 75% of value and cash out. Great plan on Godaddy’s part. I didn’t see the part of him starting last.

  • Alex – Thanks for pointing this out, I hadn’t noticed the pay structure. I wouldn’t mind an annuity payment.. better than nothing, when it’s free!
