Apple Takes Control of iPad3.com

I read on CNET this morning that Apple’s lawyers have taken control of the ipad3.com domain name.  It was reported on DomainNameWire at the end of June that Apple had filed a UDRP case with WIPO to have a panel decide the fate of the domain.  It looks like that may have triggered the former registrant to transfer the name to Apple’s lawyers before the hearing.

News to me was that Apple never even called their newest iPad the ‘iPad3’ yet they definitely wanted the domain.  It should be noted the domain is not yet in the possession of Apple but its lawyer Kilpatrick, Townsend and Stockton.  I would expect to see the name be transferred to Apple in the coming months.

It’s becoming more common that I am finding out about domain name news on outlets like CNET and they are linking to our industry news sources like Fusible.com, TheDomains.com and DomainNameWire.com.  Domain name news is becoming more mainstream, even stuff not related to new gTLD’s.
